Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Mode

Procedure for initializing Diagnostic Test Mode

1. Turn the ignition switch to the ACC/ON position
2. Hold down the Power, then press and hold FM/AM and TAPE/MD buttons simultaneously for 2+ seconds
   

   Hold down the POWER button, then press and hold FM/AM and TAPE/MD for 2 seconds
3. Use the seek up and down buttons to scroll through the codes

[Note: This mode will not initialize if you have no DTCs in memory]

Supplier, Device and Code Identification Procedure

1. Initialize the DTC mode
2. The LCD will display three items
   1. Supplier Code
   2. Device Code/Part Number
   3. Error Code

DTC Memory Clearing Procedure

1. Initialize the DTC mode
2. Hold down the POWER button, then press and hold the TEXT/AUDIO CONT button for 2 seconds
   

   RX-8 audio head unit with buttons highlighted for DTC memory clear
3. To exit DTC mode, turn the ignition switch to LOCK

LCD Test

1. With the audio head unit on, hold down the POWER button and press the SEEK button for 1 second
   

   Hold down the POWER button and press the SEEK up button
2. The LCD display should have all spaces lit up. If any portion is not lit, or the display is faint, there is a malfunction
   

   Properly functioning RX-8 LCD screen in LCD test mode
3. To exit the LCD test mode, turn the audio head unit off, or move the ignition switch to the LOCK position

Button Test

1. With the audio head unit on, press and hold the POWER button and press the CLOCK button for 1 second
   

   Hold down the POWER button, and press the CLOCK button for 1 second
2. Once activated, press any button and listen for the beep to verify it is working. No functions will be activated by the buttons in this mode for testing
3. To exit button test mode, turn the audio head unit off or move the ignition switch to LOCK

Speaker Test

1. With the audio head unit on, press and hold the POWER button and press the TUNE/AUTO-M button for 1 second
   

   Press and hold the POWER button and press the TUNE/AUTO-M button for 1 second
2. Each speaker should output sound in individually in this order:
   1. Front passenger door speaker and tweeter
   2. Front driver door speaker and tweeter
   3. Rear driver side speaker
   4. Rear passenger speaker
3. To exit the speaker test turn the audio head unit off or turn the ignition switch to LOCK

Radio Signal Test

1. With the audio head unit on, press and hold the POWER button, then press PRESET 2 for 1 second
   

   Press and hold the POWER button, then press the PRESET 2 button for 1 second
2. Tune the radio to a frequency with known good reception. If possible, verify signal with another radio
3. Read the output on the LCD screen and examine the table below
   
4. To exit the Radio Signal Test turn the audio head unit off or turn the ignition switch to LOCK

Display	Action
LEV - 5~9	Antenna, antenna feeder and base unit are normal
LEV - 3~4	Change the frequency (radio station) and inspect again.
LEV - 0~2	Inspect the antenna and antenna feeder If either the antenna or the antenna feeder is not normal, replace the malfunctioning part. If the antenna and antenna feeder are normal, replace the base unit.
